Updated at 5:00 pm July 28: Fire fighters have made significant progress on the Mono Fire burning near Mono Lake as smoke from a much larger fire on the west slope of the Sierra continues to fill the Owens Valley. The Mono Fire started Monday afternoon near the junction of Highway 120 East and 395. What caused the fire remains under investigation. The fire is currently burning through brush and has grown to 1200 acres in size. Tuesday afternoon, winds pushed the fire toward 120 East.
