New Candidate for Mammoth Council

The Mammoth Town Council election is starting to heat up as a fourth candidate has thrown his hat into the ring.

Earlier this week, long time councilman John Eastman declared that he would seek another term on council. Now Mathew Lehman has declared he will run for a seat on the council.

matthew_head_shot-croppedLehman was raised in Mammoth and currently owns two businesses in town. He has served on the Mono County Assessment Appeals Board and worked with the Chamber of Commerce and the Village at Mammoth to help put on the Mammoth Rocks Festival. Lehman also says that he is the leasing agent for the Village at Mammoth and recently helped with the revitalization of the Village.

Lehman says that he’s a “huge fan” of the bear management program and has supported local contractors in their efforts to lower development impact fees.

Until Lehman declared that he would run, there were only three people running for three seats on the council. Former councilman Rick Wood has declared that he will run, as did former councilman Tony Barrett. Current councilman John Eastman has also said he would run.

These are the candidates who have chosen to announce they are running so far. The filing period for local elections starts February 16th and there may be additional candidates to join the race as the March 12th filing deadline approaches.
